Mislikervyraxi

Band recording

Capture the whole combo in a treated live room of about 32 m², with a drum riser, enough mics for the kit and amps, and an engineer in the control room who listens without breaking your flow.

Band plays live in recording room with control room window behind.

Band sessions at Mislikervyraxi are built around playing together: locking drums, bass, guitars, and keys in one pass when that serves the song. That suits rock, indie, jazz, funk, and other line-ups that prefer not to stack every part in isolation. Our live room in Amsterdam Oud-West fits up to 6 musicians; larger groups need a quick call first so routing and headphone mixes stay workable.

Studio time includes a recording engineer, a core microphone set, and monitoring. After the session you receive raw multitracks as agreed; mixing, mastering, and heavy editing are separate services. For planning tips, read plan a band session; rates and cancellation rules are in our terms and conditions.

How it works

  1. 01

    Intake

Send a song list, tempos, references, and who plays what. We block the live room, plan mics, and schedule booth time for vocals if needed.

  2. 02

    Soundcheck

Kit on the riser, amps spaced safely, individual headphone mixes. Balance and phase first, then takes.

  3. 03

    Tracking

Live passes, section punches, or booth overdubs. The engineer marks takes and keeps the day moving without rushing performances.

  4. 04

    Delivery

Labelled track exports, brief session notes, and a download link. Mislikervyraxi keeps backups for 18 months; you should archive locally too.

Who this service fits

The live room is for bands and projects that want a rhythm section or full ensemble at once: three- to five-piece rock and indie groups, jazz combos, funk and soul line-ups, and artists working with session players. Solo acts who only want live drums and bass, then overdub guitars or keys later, also fit a half-day or full-day booking.

We are not a rehearsal room rented without an engineer; every session is led by a recording engineer. Players from age 16 are welcome with parental consent; younger participants are discussed case by case through contact.

Live room and control

The live room is roughly 32 m², one of 3 spaces at Overtoom 141. There is a drum riser, space for backline amps, and a window into the control room so you can see each other during long days.

The desk side offers a hybrid setup with around 16 preamp channels. Everyone gets a headphone mix; we adjust sends between takes. The studio sits in Oud-West — Tram 1 and 13 stop Overtoom, about a three-minute walk. Bus 15 stops on Haarlemmerweg; roughly seven minutes from there. Bike racks and shared bikes on the street.. Hours: Monday–Friday 09:30–18:30, Saturday 10:00–16:00, Sunday closed..

Typical tracking approach

Many bands start with a rhythm track: drums, bass, and maybe rhythm guitar live, sometimes with a guide vocal replaced later in one of our 2 iso booths. Others commit to full live takes when arrangements are tight. We choose the approach based on your experience and how many songs must land inside the booked time.

Between takes we fix feedback, tweak headphone mixes, and note which pass felt best. Perfect one-shot performances are rare; that is normal. Comping or detailed editing after the session is outside standard band recording unless we quote extra hours upfront.

What to bring

Bring instruments, strings, sticks, picks, and favourite mics if you own them. Backline amps are in the room; bring-your-own amps are fine when size and sound allow. Discuss drum sizes and amp choices before the day so we do not burn time on surprises.

Send a song list with BPM and structure at least three working days ahead. Reference tracks help us understand how tight or roomy you want the capture. More detail lives in plan a band session and the guides hub.

Time and rate choice

Output depends on arrangement, performance, and breaks. As a rough guide: one well-rehearsed song with live rhythm and one overdub pass often takes one and a half to three hours; a four-song EP usually needs a full day or two half-days with prep at home.

Files and formats

By default we deliver labelled WAV files per source, 24-bit, 48 kHz, unless your project uses another agreed sample rate. We can include a DAW session export when you share software and version. Tracks stay raw: no automatic tuning or mix balance unless you book mixing with us.

Files go out via secure download to the email on the booking. Keep local copies: our archive window is 18 months, then backups are removed per policy and our privacy policy. Late re-exports after that window are not always possible.

Mix, mastering, and next steps

Band recording is the foundation; the release-ready sound often comes from mixing. Our mix engineer works from your tracks with 2 revision rounds per song as listed on the mix page. Then mastering sets loudness and translation for streaming and download; vinyl prep is a separate mastering add-on.

If you mix elsewhere, pass our track names and a rough mix to your mixer. The guide deliver mix stems helps bands exporting themselves and avoids mis-labelled drums or doubled reverbs in stem bounces.

Booking, deposit, cancellation

Once date and rate are confirmed we ask for a 35% deposit. The balance is due as agreed before or on the session day. Free rescheduling applies up to 5 calendar days before start; after that the deposit may be forfeited or the session charged, as set out in terms and conditions.

Illness or force majeure is handled practically: a new date beats an argument later. For last-minute changes call 020 789 3462 or email [email protected]. General studio questions sit on FAQ; for a walk-through, book via contact.

Not included in studio time

Band recording does not include hired session musicians, instrument rental beyond what is on site, full-tune editing on every take, artwork, or label rights deals. Catering is on you; Overtoom has plenty of lunch options nearby.

More than 6 players in the room, or audience in the control area beyond what fits 10 guests total in the building, needs prior approval. Overtime beyond your package bills at €125. Upfront clarity keeps invoices predictable.

FAQ

How many songs fit in four hours?

With a tight rhythm section and few arrangement changes, two to three songs is realistic. More overdubs or tempo shifts? Book a full day or a second half-day via contact.

Can we use our own sticks and amps?

Yes. Tell us at intake so we plan power, space, and mic placement. Very loud amps may need different mic positions; we discuss that beforehand.

Can we mix right after tracking?

If control-room time is free we can schedule mixing on another day. Mixing immediately after eight hours of tracking rarely gives the sharpest ear; we usually suggest a separate date.

What if one member arrives late?

Booked time still runs. We may use delay for soundcheck or booth prep, but hours are not extended for free. See terms and conditions on start times.

Do you provide a rough mix?

A quick balance-only bounce for home listening can be added on request if time allows; it does not replace proper mixing. Ask explicitly when booking.
