Audiobook recording

For publishers and narrators who need a clear, steady voice over hours of reading: a quiet booth, chapter tags and careful attention to breath and pacing.

Narrator reads in quiet booth while engineer monitors outside.

Audiobooks demand a different discipline from songs: your voice must stay even for hours, sentences need air and mistakes must be editable without audible jumps. At Mislikervyraxi on Overtoom 141 you read in a booth tuned for spoken word, with an engineer watching level and articulation.

We work with authors, hired narrators and publishers testing a pilot before scheduling a full manuscript. Rights stay between you and your publisher; our audiobook rights guide helps you prepare common paperwork without offering legal advice.

How it works

  1. 01

    Prep

Digital manuscript with chapter numbers, pronunciation list for names and daily page targets. We block quiet slots in the calendar.

  2. 02

    Sound check

First quarter-hour: mic distance, pop filter, reading pace and a retake cue (e.g. three claps before a repeat).

  3. 03

    Recording

Chapter by chapter with short breaks. The engineer logs timecodes for flubs and long silences for the editor.

  4. 04

    Edit and export

Basic editing can sit inside the pilot or be booked separately. Export as chapter WAVs or finished-hour audio at the rates below.

Who books this

Fiction and non-fiction authors self-narrating, voice actors on publisher hire and small labels launching a first title. We cover capture and technical editing, not casting or audiobook marketing.

You must be 16 or older to book. Minors only with a parent or guardian and written permission from rights holders where required.

Booth and monitoring

The audiobook setup uses one of our 2 isolation booths, extra damping for low rumble and a broadcast-style mic on a boom. In the control room we watch RMS and peaks so chapters match.

Headphone feed stays dry unless you want a subtle timing cue. Water and script on tablet or paper are ready; we reduce page-turn noise with loose pages where possible.

Daily rhythm and pace

Reading is tiring. Plan on four to five net recording hours per day at most; longer days hurt quality. Monday–Friday 09:30–18:30, Saturday 10:00–16:00, Sunday closed. sets when we can start; evening slots are limited.

Experienced narrators often yield eight to twelve finished minutes per recording hour, depending on text density and retakes. A ten-hour listen might need twenty to thirty capture hours before editing.

Manuscript and pronunciation

Send a final edited file as PDF or Word with clear chapter breaks. Add a list of names, places and foreign words with preferred pronunciation.

Mid-project text changes cost time; freeze copy before day one. Multilingual editions record per language—we do not translate. Background in audiobook rights basics.

Editing, QC and formats

Raw capture delivers chapter WAVs with consistent naming. Basic editing trims long silences, removes obvious misreads and lightens noise between phrases—no heavy sound design.

The finished hour rate covers tighter editing and level matching across chapters, ready for your publisher’s mastering. Pass ACX, Findaway or local specs before export.

FAQ

How long will my whole book take?

Listen time × roughly 2–3 gives rough capture hours, plus editing if booked here. We refine the estimate after the €320 pilot.

Do I need rights sorted first?

Yes. Confirm you may narrate and distribute. Audiobook rights basics lists documents publishers often ask for; we do not give legal advice.

Can I approve a chapter from home?

We send a daily export for review. Large content changes on later days add capture time at €79.

Which delivery format?

Default is 24-bit WAV mono or stereo as agreed, per chapter. Platform MP3 or M4B only when you supply specs.

What if I get ill mid-project?

Tell us immediately. We pause and reschedule remaining days under terms; the 5-day rule applies per scheduled session where relevant.
