Plan a band session that fits your booked time

Tracking live takes more than good performances: routing, rest and a realistic set list. This guide matches band recording in our Overtoom live room — 32 m², drum riser and a control room with sight lines.

Band and engineer discuss recording plan at lounge table.

Who it is for and what to expect

Our band recording suits combos that want to play together, not only stack home overdubs. The live room fits up to 6 musicians at once; larger line-ups need extra overdub blocks or a second day by agreement.

Rate guide: €125 per hour, €429 half day (four hours) or €799 full day (eight hours), incl. 21% VAT. On confirmation we ask for a 35% deposit; free cancellation up to 5 days before the session, see terms and conditions.

Set list and priorities

Before quoting, send titles, tempo (bpm) and who plays solos. Pick one priority song for the morning — often the track with the trickiest drum–guitar interplay. Do not plan more songs than fit your booked hours; three solid tracks beat six half-finished ones.

Need a click? Supply a aligned guide and note where the band wants to play free. Backing vocals or an extra guitarist can move to a second block in the vocal booth; tie that to vocals and voice if you want vocal takes the same day.

Instruments and backline

Drums sit on the riser; bring your own snare, sticks and cymbals if you rely on a fixed sound. We mic guitar and bass amps with room mics; some bands prefer DI-only for re-amp later — decide upfront.

Tune in the rehearsal room, not against Amsterdam street noise. Extra string instruments and analog synths: tell us power and footprint. We have 3 rooms; routing between live room and booths is planned before you arrive.

Day structure and breaks

A half day is four net recording hours after setup; allow thirty to sixty minutes at the start for soundcheck and headphone mixes. On a full day we schedule lunch and short hourly breaks — tired drum hands and saturated ears cost takes.

Opening hours: Monday–Friday 09:30–18:30, Saturday 10:00–16:00, Sunday closed. Aim to arrive ten minutes early for load-in at Overtoom 141. Tram 1 and 13 stop Overtoom, about a three-minute walk. Bus 15 stops on Haarlemmerweg; roughly seven minutes from there. Bike racks and shared bikes on the street. If public transport delays you, call 020 789 3462 so we can adjust the plan.

Communication on the floor

The control room sees the live room; talkback and gestures usually suffice. Agree who approves takes — one contact avoids conflicting feedback. Bring demos as reference, not as a substitute for rehearsal.

Remote listening for a producer at home only if it does not slow the session; focus stays on musicians in the room. For file handover when you mix yourself, see deliver mix stems.

Budget and onward to mix

Count band time plus optional overdub hours. Mixing is separate: mixing from €175 per track with 2 revision rounds included; extra round €55 per track. EP up to six tracks: €595.

Mastering is its own step via mastering. Plan budget for mix and master after tracking; we archive raw files for 18 months unless agreed otherwise.

Working with our team

Maarten Jansen coordinates scheduling; recording days are led by engineers such as Fleur Bakker for band and vocals. We have worked from Oud-West since 2018 and know city rehearsal constraints: neighbours, parking and rush hour.

Align expectations with booked time. A solid EP beats an exhausted album in one day — we help trim without compromising your sound. Pair this guide with prepare your voice if singers also record solo the same week.
